Owner Casey Zelinsky
About Casey: He studied Accounting at UCSC and then once he graduated he worked for a tax firm for a couple of years. He felt that although it was interesting and a good career, his heart wasn’t in it. He grew up working in retail and knew that he had always liked the retail business. 4 years ago he started his website, www.captainssk8.com. The online business has done well. He never advertised or used any type of internet service to get his name out for his website. He relied on word of mouth and that he carried off brands he would hope that would help generate traffic to his website. He knew there was a market for the skateboarding market in the Bay Area. After 4 years of having a internet business, he decided to open a brick and mortar store in downtown Redwood City. He relied on a loan to open his store and help from his grandparents and family member. He chose the Redwood City location because of where he grew up, the rent was cheap and there was no other store like it in the area. So he knew at this time there was no immediate threat of competition. The store has now been open for 7 months.
Mission: Be involved in the community and provide unique and off beat brands of clothing to the skateboarding community. Be involved with the kids in the skateboarding community as well.
Products: Skateboarding clothing for Men, Women and Children. The store also offers unique skateboards that Casey himself will grip and set it all up for you when you purchase the skateboard. He also carries all the accessories you would need for your skateboard. The store also has accessories, vintage biker helmets, hats, and jewelry.
